Anderson Kalang, a Kelabit born and raised in Miri, Sarawak, is a prominent figure in promoting Borneo Sape’ and Sarawak Cultural Arts movements from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
A master Traditional Orang Ulu Dancer and Sape’ performer. Co-founding the Kuala Lumpur Sape’ Collective, he has performed internationally at festivals and collaborated to establish the first Sape' Hub in Peninsular Malaysia. He gained recognition for his performances, including representing Malaysia at ASIA’s GOT TALENT.
Anderson also co-founded "MUPUN TAUH (Our Grandchildren)" to revive Traditional Orang Ulu Sape' tunes, dances, and stories, which received international acclaim. Alongside his artistic pursuits, he is a professional photographer and cinematographer, documenting Malaysia's culture and stories.
He has been awarded the 2019 Miri City Mayor’s Award for his contributions to tourism through indigenous music. Anderson has performed on national platforms and collaborated with international artists, showcasing the versatility of the Sape’ instrument across various genres.
Recently, he gained attention for his collaboration with English singer Calum Scott, which garnered significant views and recognition across multiple platforms. Remaining true to his roots while innovating Sape’ music, Anderson is set to release more original works in the coming year.
